Practices and Routines
A few of Harrow Way Pre-school's practices are detailed here. They are also in our Pre-school Group booklet and are displayed on the Pre-school noticeboard.
Our operational plan contains the comprehensive guide to our pre-school practices.
For further guidance or questions on any of these please contact the Group Supervisor or a staff member.
Collections - Please ensure you arrive to collect your child at the end of the sessions by 12.00 noon and 3.30pm.
A late collection causes distress to children!
If you are going to be late due to an emergency please phone us prior to these collection times so we can make arrangements with you and to reassure the child.
You can collect your child earlier than these end of session times and we would be happy to make arrangements with you for this routine.
May we remind you old clothes are best for playing in. We do provide aprons for messy activities and we do have spare underwear and sun hats should they be required. Sensible shoes, coats and sun cream are the parents and carers responsibility and are neccessary for our outdoor activities.
Sandals look lovely but they do interfere with the amount and type of activities children can use when outside and can cause accidents.
Support to Parents
Parents evenings and open days are orgainsed during the year. This is an ideal opportunity for the parents to see some of the activities on offer, view our photograph album and operational plan, read your child's written records and talk to a member of staff about your child's progress and achievements. Please be assured if the staff have any concerns with regards to your child's needs, progress or development we will communicate to all parents prior to these events.
During the summer term part of each session is spent outside in the sunshine. We advise all parents and carers to ensure that your child has sunscreen applied before arriving at the Group. If a parent has not done so or the child is not sure whether they are protected, we will unfortunately have no choice but to keep them under the shade of our canopy. Please could you also supply lightweight jackets/cardigans in case the weather cools down.
The pre-school will provide the use of sun hats to all children.
During the session we open a 'snack bar' where we provide a balanced variety of healthy foods and a drink. This is a social time when we sit and talk together. Please tell us about your child's special dietary needs and we will endeavour to ensure that these are met.
There is restricted parking outside the Pre-school building for the sole use of the centre and school staff.
Parents are not permitted to park within the main school grounds.
The library is open on Friday mornings 8.50–9.20 am. You will be able to avail yourselves of books to take home through our Pre-school lending library.
The children love taking the books to share with you at home and we have had very positive feedback from the parents/carers.
Could you please ensure that the books are looked after, kept in their folders when not being read and returned each week. It will benefit you and your little one if they are encouraged now to be responsible for their own school items (especially when they start at their reception Units and you’re having to chase around finding P.E. kits, coats, letter returns etc. etc. in the mornings.) Also, please could all books be returned at the end of each term, as no books will be on loan during the holidays. If a book is lost or damaged it would be appreciated if you could replace it, as our funds are limited.
